Strata Paintings Jurassic Coast
Last week was spent out in the landscape of East Devon and Dorset, working on a new collection of Strata paintings based on the Jurassic Coast.
We started the trip at Budleigh Salterton and the wonderful red sandstone cliffs and pebble beds.
Budleigh Salterton, East Devon.

The cliffs have a feeling that the negative space should contain some kind of vessels.
The journey continued Sidmouth, Branscombe, Beer and Seaton. Then onto Lyme Regis and Charmouth.

Charmouth.
Rupert was very exhausted and had a day out with Sam my sister. Which gave me a chance to get stuck in with drawing.
Onto Lulworth Cove and Stair Hole with the famous crumple in the Strata.

The crumple in the Strata is just incredible and alarming. Over to Durdle Door and
Bat Hole with the chalk and flint layers.

The following day with a refreshed dog we headed to Kimmeridge and Studland.

Then onto Burton Bradstock and the last drawings for this trip.

With each location I have collected the different rock samples, from the red sandstone to chalk and flint. All of which are now spread out all over the studio floor waiting for the call for involvement in the new works.
The paintings from this trip are planned for exhibition at the Floren Gallery, Parkstone in September. More details as the works develop.
Thank you to Sam, Jason, Alice and Gabriel for accommodating a human and his spotty dog.
Mark.
