The Walk
The upcoming collection is developing beyond expectation, which for me is wonderful.
If you have looked at my site before then you will know the upcoming project is based on the Tors of Dartmoor, linked to the story of Prometheus on his crag. I will be posting more about this in the coming weeks, but I wanted to post something about an integral part of my creative process.
The Walk
As far back as I can remember I have always walked. When I say walked I don't mean a simple from a to b. This is a form of meditation, coupled with an inner desire or Wanderlust.
In the past walks like this would get me in all sorts of trouble. On numerous occasions I would set off to clear my head, by the time that had happened I would find myself ten miles from where I started then have to walk back. There is a purifying process in the activity of moving threw a particular space in a certain time. Bringing a heightened awareness and a stillness.
The short story by Franz Kafka 'The sudden walk' talks about this very succinctly and describes the process as one where you
'Attain your true form'.
Examples of this are everywhere. Listening to Nick Cave ' I thought i'd take a walk today it's a mistake I sometimes make' for all the people that are not ready, just yet.
This state is very closely linked to the condition when painting.
The walk has become vital in the every day with an hour walk before going into the studio and the same at the end of the day. Which is where my dog Rupert comes in never letting me go to far, helping to complete the day. If you don't already you should try it.
